Normalcy - "the state or fact of being normal"

Normal -                                                            the blank is left intentionally... by what standard or set of rules do we measure normality?  Who do we compare ourselves with in an effort to reach "the state of being normal"?

I know a teenager who has shared many stories with his counselor.  Stories of hardship, neglect, and of survival.  His often repeated question to her... that's really bad, right? does that make me a bad kid?  The simple answer is "no".  There is no simple definition of normalcy... the definition would be as varied as the many cultures, heritages, and familial types found in this country.

Normal people have normal problems, and these people often find out that many others share very similar burdens.  This is the reason why many "12-Step Programs" are so successful.  The first step to sharing your story with others may be typing it up and sending it confidentially through this site.
